How is AI DD different from technology DD?
Technology DD checks whether systems work. AI DD goes deeper.
It checks whether the AI actually delivers what was promised, whether the data quality supports it long-term, whether the team can maintain it after the deal closes, and whether adoption will survive the transition. These are questions that standard technology diligence doesn't ask because most tech DD firms lack the expertise to answer them.
They can tell you the servers run. They cannot tell you whether the AI models produce reliable outputs, whether the training data has bias issues, or whether the deal team's assumptions about AI value creation are realistic. That gap is where surprises happen post-close.
