Is Claude better than ChatGPT for business?

Neither wins every job, so the useful question is which one fits your work. For most companies the differences show up in three places: long documents and spreadsheets, the software you already run, and the plan you buy.

Claude's edge is careful work on long material. It reads a full contract or a long board pack in one go, works inside Excel through Claude for Excel, and in its desktop app can carry out multi-step tasks on files you choose. For owner-run companies, Anthropic's Claude for Small Business adds ready-made workflows, such as a month-end close packet and payroll planning, connected to QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Gusto and Microsoft 365.

ChatGPT's edge is breadth and familiarity. OpenAI's small business program, launched in July 2026, offers plugins for many of the same tools, including a QuickBooks plugin that manages invoices, estimates, payments and payroll from chat, and Intuit shipped the same QuickBooks features to both assistants that month. Adoption is close: in Ramp's September 2026 AI Index, 43.8 percent of US businesses on its platform paid Anthropic and 40.6 percent paid OpenAI.

Price and terms are close too. Claude Team costs $20 a seat a month billed annually, or $25 monthly, and ChatGPT Business costs the same; neither trains on your business data by default. The free and personal plans of both run on consumer terms, so keep company data out of them. To choose, give both the same three real jobs for two weeks and keep the one your team reaches for.
