Do you need to custody at Schwab to use Claude for Financial Advisors?

Short answer: No. Schwab Advisor Services is the only RIA custodian integrated with Claude for Financial Advisors at launch, so live custodial data such as accounts, titling and beneficiaries comes only from Schwab for now. The other connectors, including Orion (with Redtail), Wealthbox, Black Diamond, Addepar, Envestnet Tamarac, MoneyGuide, iCapital, Wealth.com and Zocks, work wherever you custody.
The Schwab connector feeds two skills: the estate and tax brief, which checks titling and beneficiaries against the estate plan, and the rebalance review. Schwab says it is bringing Claude for Financial Advisors to the more than 16,000 independent RIAs it serves, through an authenticated connection to Schwab Advisor Center.
Check its status before you plan around it. Anthropic's own repository lists the Schwab connector as coming soon, and the skills fall back to a pasted or uploaded export until it is live for your firm.
Schwab's controls are worth knowing. Firms switch the connector on at the firm level and choose which users can use it. Account numbers, Social Security numbers and clients' dates of birth are masked, and Schwab says its agreement prohibits training models on client data. You pay through your Anthropic licenses, with nothing extra to Schwab.
If you custody elsewhere, your portfolio system already holds most of what the skills need. Orion, Black Diamond, Addepar and Tamarac supply holdings and performance. For titling and beneficiary checks, export from your custodian and upload.
