Is Claude better than ChatGPT for due diligence?
For due diligence, Claude is usually the better choice, because diligence is reading at volume. A data room holds the CIM, the quality of earnings report, customer contracts, leases and board minutes, and the findings that matter come from comparing them: the churn figure in the CIM against the one in the quality of earnings report, or a change-of-control clause in a top customer's contract. Claude reads long documents carefully and is quick to say when two of them do not reconcile.
Anthropic's free private equity plugin includes diligence commands, one that builds a checklist for the deal and one that prepares you for a diligence meeting or expert call. Claude also connects to Box and Egnyte, two common homes for deal documents.
ChatGPT earns its place around the documents: researching the market, drafting expert-call questions, writing the first version of the findings memo. OpenAI's finance product lists Datasite, a data room provider, among its connectors, a real convenience if your deals run on Datasite and your firm qualifies for the product.
Settle confidentiality before anyone uploads a file. Use a business plan, never a personal account. Check that your NDA allows processing by an AI vendor. Keep each deal in its own project so one target's documents never shape answers about another. Claude Team and ChatGPT Business cost $20 a seat a month billed annually, and neither trains on your data by default.
Whichever you pick, a person signs off every finding. The model's job is to get your team to the right page faster.
