TLDR: The best Claude connectors for family offices start where the documents and email live: Anthropic's Microsoft 365 connector, Box or Egnyte. The Microsoft 365 connector works on every Claude plan, stays read-only unless an admin turns on write tools and needs one-time consent from an Entra Global Admin. Add PitchBook for direct deals, or Morningstar or FactSet for public holdings, only if the office licenses them. A reporting platform with an API can get a custom connector, read-only first. WorkWise Solutions sets up the document connectors in its Claude rollout, from $25,000, and builds custom ones from $75,000.

Connecting Claude to the family's documents and email?

I connect Claude to the office's document store, read-only, with the data rules and retention settings in place first, inside the Claude rollout I run through WorkWise Solutions, from $25,000 for offices of 1 to 10 people. If your reporting platform has an API, I build a custom read-only connector to it as a Custom Build from $75,000, fixed once scoped.

1. The Short Answer

The best Claude connectors for family offices start where the family's documents and email already live: Microsoft 365, Box or Egnyte.

Anthropic's own Microsoft 365 connector is available on every Claude plan, stays read-only unless an admin turns on write tools, and needs one-time consent from an Entra Global Admin. Box and Egnyte connectors sit in Anthropic's financial-analysis plugin.

After the documents come the deal and market data the office already licenses, then the reporting platform, through a custom connector if it has an API.

Documents first, read-only. Everything else can wait for a workflow that needs it.

2. What a Claude Connector Is

A connector lets Claude read from, and sometimes act in, another system. Claude's connectors are MCP servers, built on the Model Context Protocol.

On Team and Enterprise, an Owner enables each connector for the office's organization, and each person still signs in with their own account. Owners also set each connector's tools, read-only or write and delete, to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked (Anthropic Help Center).

Two controls decide what Claude can touch: each person's own sign-in and the Owner's settings.

3. The Connectors That Matter for a Family Office

Five rows, in the order to connect them.

Claude connectors for a family office. Connector facts from Anthropic's Help Center and its financial-services README, read October 2026. The order and the checks are the recommendations of WorkWise Solutions, which publishes this guide.
Connector What Claude can reach What to check first
Microsoft 365, Anthropic's own connector Documents and email the office keeps in Microsoft 365 One-time consent from an Entra Global Admin. Leave write tools off, so it stays read-only.
Box or Egnyte, in Anthropic's financial-analysis plugin Files the office keeps there, such as manager statements, capital call notices and K-1s Which folders the first workflow needs. Each person signs in with their own account.
PitchBook Its data, within what the office licenses, for direct deals Whether the office already subscribes. Access may need a subscription or API key from the provider.
Morningstar or FactSet Their data, within what the office licenses, for public holdings The same check, provider by provider.
The office's reporting platform What the platform's API returns, through a custom connector Whether the platform has an API and the office's license covers using it. Build read-only first.

Skip what the office does not license. A connector to data nobody uses adds a login and a setting to watch.

Most of the value sits in the first two rows, because that is where the family's paper already lands.

4. Your Reporting Platform: Custom Connectors

If the office runs a reporting platform, that is where its consolidated numbers sit.

If the platform has an API, a custom connector can let Claude read it. The connector is an MCP server written for that one platform. It calls the API and hands Claude what comes back, under the same Owner settings as any other connector.

Build it read-only first. With only read tools, Claude can look up a holding or a performance figure and has no tool that changes a record.

Before anyone writes code, ask the vendor whether the platform has an API and whether the office's license covers using it.

Read-only access answers the family's questions. Write access can wait until someone can say why it is needed.

5. Privacy Settings for Connectors

These settings come before any family file is connected.

  • The plan. Connect family data only to the office's Team or Enterprise organization, where Anthropic says that by default it will not use inputs or outputs to train its models (Privacy Center). The Microsoft 365 connector also works on Free, Pro and Max, which run on consumer terms where chats can train models unless the user opts out, so put the rule in writing.
  • Tool permissions. Read tools on Always allow or Needs approval; write and delete tools Blocked.
  • Cowork approvals. Automatically approve mode is on by default, so turn it off. Always allow for connector tools is off by default, so leave it off (Cowork on Team and Enterprise).
  • Local files. Anthropic's Cowork safety page says: "Avoid granting access to local files with sensitive information, like financial documents." Local Cowork history stays on each person's computer, where admins cannot centrally delete it.
  • Chat ratings. A thumbs up or down stores the whole conversation for up to 5 years, so switch ratings off in Organization settings, Data and Privacy.
  • Data location. Claude stores data in the United States, with no EU storage option for Team or Enterprise. A family with members or entities in Europe should ask counsel first.

Privacy at a family office is mostly defaults someone checked. Write down each setting and the date you set it.

6. Where to Start

Connect one place, read-only, for one workflow, and widen from there.

  1. List where the family's documents and email live today.
  2. Grant the Microsoft 365 consent or enable Box or Egnyte, with write tools off.
  3. Run one workflow on it for two weeks, such as the quarterly report commentary.
  4. List the data the office already licenses before adding PitchBook, Morningstar or FactSet.
  5. Ask the reporting platform's vendor whether it has an API.

The skills that use these connectors are in the best Claude skills for family offices, and the full setup is in how to implement Claude at a family office.

Where WorkWise fits

WorkWise Solutions, which publishes this guide, sets up the office's document connectors inside its Claude rollout, with the settings in section 5 written down. It costs from $25,000 for offices of 1 to 10 people to $40,000 for 61 to 150, over three to six weeks.

A custom read-only connector to a reporting platform with an API is a separate Custom Build from $75,000, fixed once scoped. WorkWise sells no licenses and takes no referral fees. Not a fit if the office's IT provider already runs its Microsoft 365 admin and only needs the settings list above.

"The Microsoft 365 connector is available on all Claude plans: Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise."

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Claude connect to our family office reporting platform?

If the platform has an API, a custom connector can let Claude read it. A custom connector is an MCP server written for that one platform: it calls the API and returns the results to Claude, under the tool permissions the office's Owner sets. Build it read-only first, so Claude can look up a holding or a performance figure but has no tool that changes a record. Before any build, ask the vendor whether the platform has an API and whether the office's license covers using it.

Is it safe to connect Claude to family email and documents?

It can be, with the right plan and settings. Connect family email and files only to the office's Claude Team or Enterprise organization, where Anthropic says it will not use inputs or outputs to train its models by default; personal Free, Pro and Max accounts run on consumer terms. Anthropic's Microsoft 365 connector stays read-only unless an admin turns on write tools. Have an Owner enable only what a workflow needs, block write and delete tools, switch off chat ratings and keep Cowork away from local folders of financial documents.

Who sets up Claude connectors for family offices?

An office whose IT provider already runs its Microsoft 365 can do the setup itself: an Entra Global Admin grants the one-time Microsoft 365 consent, an Owner enables each connector and sets its tool permissions, and each person signs in. An office that wants the privacy settings done to a written standard can hire WorkWise Solutions, which publishes this guide. Its Claude rollout sets up document connectors with data rules and retention settings, from $25,000 for offices of 1 to 10 people, and custom read-only connectors to platforms with an API are a Custom Build from $75,000.
