TLDR: The best Claude skills for family offices are six that do the reading the office repeats all year: report commentary drafted from the statements it already receives, capital call and distribution notices entered into a tracker, K-1 tracking, direct deal screening against the family's criteria, investment committee prep and plain-language explainers for family members. Each runs in the office's own format, with a person checking every number. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner uploads a skill once and every user gets it. WorkWise Solutions builds an office's first skills inside its fixed-price Claude rollout, from $25,000.
I build a family office's first skills, from the quarterly report commentary to the capital call tracker, as the starter skills library in the Claude rollout I run through WorkWise Solutions. It sets up Claude Team or Enterprise with your data rules and retention settings first, and costs from $25,000 for offices of 1 to 10 people.
Table of Contents
1. The Short Answer
The best Claude skills for family offices do the reading the office repeats all year: statements, capital call notices, K-1s, deal teasers and the papers behind each investment committee meeting.
A skill writes down how the office does one of those jobs, so Claude does it the same way every time, in the office's own format.
Six are worth building first. A person checks every number before anything reaches the family.
2. What a Claude Skill Is
A skill is a folder of instructions, scripts and resources that Claude loads when a task calls for it (Anthropic Help Center). It is built around a SKILL.md file of written instructions (developer docs), such as how your office words its quarterly commentary.
On Team and Enterprise, an Owner uploads a skill as a .zip file in Organization settings, Plugins and skills, and every user in the organization gets it at once (Anthropic Help Center). On Enterprise, a skill bundled in a plugin can go to one group only, such as the investment team.
The office's best way of doing a job stops living in one person's head.
3. The Skills Worth Building First
Each reads documents the office already has and produces one output a named person checks.
| Skill | What it does | What it reads | Who checks it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quarterly report commentary | Drafts the quarterly report commentary from what changed since last quarter, in the office's wording | Custodian and manager statements the office already receives, and last quarter's report | The CFO or controller, against the statements |
| Capital call and distribution notices | Enters each notice's fund, amount and due date into the office's tracker, and flags anything unusual, such as changed wire instructions | Capital call and distribution notices from each manager | The person who approves payments, before any money moves |
| K-1 tracking | Lists expected K-1s by entity and fund, marks each as it arrives and drafts chase emails for the rest | Incoming K-1s and the list of the family's fund investments | The office's tax lead or outside accountant |
| Direct deal screening | Screens an inbound deal against the family's written criteria, adapted from the private equity plugin's /screen-deal command | The teaser or CIM, and the family's criteria | The principal who owns the decision |
| Investment committee prep | Builds the committee pack: the agenda, a summary of each item and the open questions | Manager and deal materials, prior minutes and the agenda | Whoever chairs the meeting |
| Plain-language explainer | Turns a manager report or deal memo into one page for family members outside the investment team | The report or memo, and the office's notes | The adviser who knows that family member |
Money stays with a person. The skill can flag a changed wire instruction, and someone who knows the manager confirms it before any payment goes out.
4. What Anthropic Already Gives You
Two parts of Anthropic's financial-services repository fit a family office's work.
- Deal commands to adapt. The open-source private equity plugin (version 0.1.2, Apache-2.0) has ten commands, each backed by a skill.
/screen-deal("Screen an inbound deal (CIM or teaser)") checks a deal against investment criteria, so rewritten around the family's criteria it becomes the direct deal screen./dd-checklistand/ic-memoadapt the same way. - Connectors. The companion financial-analysis plugin holds twelve, including PitchBook for direct deals, Morningstar and FactSet for public holdings, and Box and Egnyte for documents. The README notes that "MCP access may require a subscription or API key from the provider," so start with what the office licenses. The family office connectors guide covers which ones matter.
The commands give you a first draft of the method. The family's criteria, wording and limits have to come from the office.
5. Privacy Rules for Family Skills
A family office's documents carry the family's names, holdings and accounts. Five rules keep skills from spreading them.
- The skill holds the method. Keep names, account numbers and holdings out of SKILL.md files. A good skill works on any quarter's statements.
- Business plans only. Use the office's Team or Enterprise organization, where Anthropic says that by default it will not use inputs or outputs to train its models (Privacy Center). Free, Pro and Max run on consumer terms, where chats can train models unless the user opts out.
- Chat ratings off. A thumbs up or down stores the whole conversation for up to 5 years, so switch ratings off in Organization settings, Data and Privacy.
- Sensitive skills to one group. On Team, an organization-wide skill reaches every user. On Enterprise, bundle a sensitive skill in a plugin and assign it to one group.
- User-created skills off. Turn them off in Organization settings, Plugins and skills until someone reviews each new skill (Anthropic Help Center).
Write every skill as if a new hire will read it, because every new hire will run it.
6. Where to Start
Start with one skill that repeats every quarter and one person who checks it.
- Pick the capital call tracker or the report commentary.
- Write down how the office does it today, turn that into a skill and run it on last quarter's documents.
- Have the controller check every number against the source, and fix the instructions wherever it missed.
- Upload it once it passes, then add the next skill.

WorkWise Solutions, which publishes this guide, builds an office's first skills inside its Claude rollout: Claude Team or Enterprise with data rules and retention settings, connectors to the document store, and a starter skills library in the office's own formats, with up to three champions who can maintain it. It costs from $25,000 for offices of 1 to 10 people to $40,000 for 61 to 150, over three to six weeks, and every fee is on the pricing page.
Not a fit if someone at the office already has the time to write, test and maintain skills, or if the question needs a tax or legal opinion, which belongs to the family's advisers.
"The skill is immediately provisioned to all users in your organization."

Frequently Asked Questions
What can a family office use Claude skills for?
A family office can use Claude skills for the document work it repeats: drafting quarterly report commentary from the statements it already receives, entering capital call and distribution notices into a tracker, tracking K-1s, screening direct deals against the family's criteria, preparing investment committee meetings and writing plain-language explainers for family members. A skill is a folder of instructions Claude loads when a task calls for it, so each job runs in the office's own format every time. A person checks every number before anything reaches the family.
Are Claude skills private to our family office?
On Claude Team and Enterprise, a skill an Owner uploads is provisioned to the users in the office's own Claude organization. On Team it reaches every user there; on Enterprise, a skill bundled in a plugin can go to one group only. If the office keeps skills in a GitHub repository synced as its organization marketplace, that repository must be private. Keep family names, holdings and account numbers out of the skill files themselves, so the skill holds the method and the office's documents hold the data.
Who builds Claude skills for family offices?
Some offices write their own, since a skill is a folder built around a SKILL.md file of written instructions, and Anthropic's free Claude Academy offers courses, tutorials and use cases. Others hire the work out. WorkWise Solutions, which publishes this guide, builds a starter skills library in the office's own formats inside its Claude rollout, which sets up Claude Team or Enterprise with data rules and retention settings, from $25,000 for offices of 1 to 10 people. Whoever builds them, test each skill on last quarter's documents before the whole office uses it.
