How to Implement Claude at a Family Office: A Private Setup, Step by Step

TLDR: To implement Claude at a family office, take four steps in order: buy a business plan, set the privacy controls before anyone logs in, connect documents read-only and add shared skills, then train the team on its own work. Claude Team covers offices of 2 to 150 people at $20 a seat a month billed annually. Keep family data off personal Pro and Max accounts, which run on consumer terms. WorkWise Solutions does this setup as a fixed-price Claude rollout, from $25,000 for offices of up to 10 people, in three to six weeks.
I set Claude up for family offices through WorkWise Solutions as a fixed-price Claude rollout: the plan, data rules, retention settings, connectors and a starter skills library, from $25,000 for offices of up to 10 people, in three to six weeks. For principals and staff who want the picture first, my 90-minute Executive Briefing costs $7,500.
Table of Contents
1. The Short Answer
Implementing Claude at a family office takes four steps, in this order:
Claude Team for 2 to 150 people, or Enterprise for audit logs and the Compliance API. No personal Pro or Max accounts.
Chat ratings off, retention checked, Cowork's Automatically approve mode off, and one page on what never goes in.
The document store connected read-only, then a few shared skills in the office's own formats.
The team learns on its own documents. Then the office writes its AI policy.
The order matters. A connector switched on before step 2 runs on the defaults.
2. Pick the Plan
Start with a business plan, because the terms that protect family data come with it. Two fit a family office (Anthropic's pricing):
- Claude Team takes 2 to 150 members. A standard seat costs $25 a month, or $20 billed annually. It includes single sign-on, connector admin controls, usage analytics and organization-wide skills.
- Claude Enterprise costs $20 per seat per month billed annually, plus all usage at API rates. It adds SCIM, audit logs, the Compliance API and custom retention. Bought self-serve, it has a 20-seat minimum.
Pro and Max are consumer plans. Chats can train models unless each user opts out, and there is no organization admin console, audit log or Compliance API. Keep family data off them, the principal's own account included.
Both business plans charge $20 a seat billed annually, but Enterprise adds usage and the 20-seat minimum. Start on Team unless someone needs the audit logs or custom retention.
3. Privacy Settings Before Anyone Logs In
Make these before the first family document goes in.
- Chat ratings off. A thumbs up or down stores the whole conversation for up to 5 years. Owners switch ratings off in Organization settings, Data and Privacy (Privacy Center).
- Retention. Deleted chats leave Anthropic's back end within 30 days on every plan. On Enterprise, owners can set a retention period for the whole organization, at least 30 days.
- Local Cowork history. It stays on each person's computer, outside Anthropic's retention settings, and admins cannot delete it centrally (Cowork on Team and Enterprise). Put laptops on the leaver checklist.
- Cowork approvals. Automatically approve mode is on by default. Switch it off for the first month.
- Data location. Claude stores data in the United States, with no EU storage option for Team or Enterprise. An office with family members or entities abroad should ask counsel first.
Then write one page on what never goes into Claude: passwords and access codes, bank account numbers and wire instructions, medical records, and any document a family member has asked to keep out.
Anthropic's Cowork safety page adds: "Avoid granting access to local files with sensitive information, like financial documents." Family office laptops hold plenty, so work from the document store.
Defaults are decisions someone else made for you. Make these ones yourself.
4. Connect Documents, Read-Only
Claude is most useful when it can read the office's documents, and safest when reading is all it can do.
An Owner enables each connector for the organization, each person still signs in individually, and each tool can be set to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked (Anthropic Help Center).
- Microsoft 365. Anthropic's connector is available on all Claude plans, is read-only unless an admin turns on write tools, and needs one-time consent from an Entra Global Admin (Connect to Microsoft 365).
- Box or Egnyte. Both are among the connectors in Anthropic's financial-analysis plugin, and access may need a subscription or API key from the provider.
Put read tools on Always allow and write or delete tools on Needs approval or Blocked. Reporting platforms and the rest are covered in the best Claude connectors for family offices.
Start with reading. Writing can wait until the office trusts the drafts.
5. Shared Skills and Training
Skills are, in Anthropic's words, "folders of instructions, scripts, and resources that Claude loads dynamically to improve performance on specialized tasks" (What are skills?).
On Team and Enterprise, an Owner uploads a skill once in Organization settings, Plugins and skills, and "The skill is immediately provisioned to all users in your organization" (Anthropic Help Center).
Start with two or three in the office's own formats, such as commentary for the quarterly family report or a capital call tracker, each with a person checking the numbers. The guide to the best Claude skills for family offices lists more.
Then train people on their own work: a real statement, a real capital call notice, a real memo, redacted where needed. For the person who will own Claude, Anthropic's Claude Academy has free courses.
Write the policy last, once the team knows what the rules are for. The family office AI policy template is a one-page start.
A skill nobody was trained to use is a file in a folder.
6. Where to Start
This week:
- Count who will use Claude in month one and pick the plan.
- Move anyone on a personal account for office work onto the office's plan.
- Make the privacy settings in section 3 before the first login, and write the one page on what never goes in.
- Connect one document store read-only and load two shared skills.
- Train the team on its own documents, then write the policy.
Budgeting first? How Much Does It Cost to Implement Claude at a Family Office? prices the seats, setup and training for offices of 5, 10 and 20 people.
WorkWise Solutions, which publishes this guide, does the setup as a fixed-price Claude rollout: the plan, data rules, retention settings, connectors to the office's document stores, a starter skills library with up to three champions who can maintain it, and the governance documentation. It costs $25,000 for offices of 1 to 10 people and $30,000 for 11 to 25, over three to six weeks. WorkWise training runs live online on the office's own redacted documents.
WorkWise sells no licenses, takes no referral fees and publishes every price on its pricing page. Not a fit if the office has an IT lead with the time and admin experience to run these steps in-house.
"By default, we will not use your inputs or outputs from our commercial products (e.g. Claude for Work, Anthropic API, Claude Gov, etc.) to train our models."

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to implement Claude at a family office?
The settings come first and the habits take longest. Buying Claude Team and making the privacy settings is admin work an owner can finish before anyone logs in. Shared skills in the office's own formats and training on its own documents take longer, because people have to use them on real work. WorkWise Solutions runs the setup as a fixed-scope Claude rollout in three to six weeks, from $25,000 for offices of up to 10 people. After launch, budget an owner's hours each week to keep settings and skills current.
Should a family office use Claude Team or Enterprise?
Start on Claude Team unless the office needs Enterprise's controls. Team covers 2 to 150 members at $20 a seat a month billed annually, with single sign-on, connector admin controls, usage analytics and organization-wide skills. Claude Enterprise costs $20 per seat per month billed annually plus all usage at API rates, with a 20-seat minimum when bought self-serve, and adds SCIM, audit logs, the Compliance API, custom retention and per-user spend limits. Choose Enterprise when the office needs an audit trail or its own retention period.
Can family members use personal Claude accounts for family office work?
Not for family office data. Free, Pro and Max run on consumer terms, where chats can train models unless the user opts out, and Pro and Max have no organization admin console, no audit logs and no Compliance API, so the office cannot manage what goes into them. Put every family member and staff member who does office work on the office's Team or Enterprise plan, where Anthropic does not train models on inputs or outputs by default. Personal accounts can stay for personal use.
