What Are the Best Claude Skills for Private Credit Firms?

TLDR: The best Claude skills for private credit firms are the ones a credit team writes around its own documents: a covenant catalog from each credit agreement, a compliance certificate check, a credit memo first draft, borrower spreading, a quarterly watchlist note and an amendment summary. Anthropic's financial-services repository has no private credit plugin as of October 23, 2026, so funds build these in their own formats, with an analyst checking every number. WorkWise Solutions builds a fund's first skills inside its fixed-price Claude rollout, from $25,000.
I build a credit fund's first skills, from the covenant catalog to the memo draft, as the starter skills library in the Claude rollout I run through WorkWise Solutions, from $25,000 for funds of 1 to 10 people. The Credit-Team Intensive, $12,500 for up to 12 people, then trains the team on its own redacted credit work.

1. The Short Answer
The best Claude skills for private credit firms take over the document work a credit team repeats every quarter: covenants, compliance certificates, memos, spreads, watchlist notes and amendments.
You build them yourself: Anthropic's financial-services repository has a private equity plugin and no private credit or lending plugin, as of October 23, 2026.
That gap is smaller than it sounds. A credit skill is mostly your own definitions written down, and no vendor has those.
2. What a Claude Skill Is
A skill is a folder of instructions, scripts and resources that Claude loads when a task calls for it (Anthropic Help Center). It is built around a SKILL.md file of written instructions (developer docs), such as how your fund lays out a covenant catalog.
On Team and Enterprise, an Owner uploads a skill as a .zip file in Organization settings, Plugins and skills, and every user in the organization gets it at once (Anthropic Help Center). Giving a skill to one group only, bundled in a plugin, takes Enterprise.
A fund that keeps skills as plugins in GitHub can sync that repository as its organization marketplace, provided the repository is private (Anthropic Help Center).
Write a skill once and every analyst runs the same steps in the same order.
3. The Skills Worth Building First
Six skills cover most of the repeat document work on a direct lending book.
| Skill | What it does | What it reads | Who checks it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Covenant catalog | Lists each financial covenant's level, definitions and test dates, with the page each comes from | The credit agreement and every amendment | The deal analyst, against the agreement |
| Compliance certificate check | Recomputes each ratio from the borrower's financials using the agreement's own definitions, and flags any gap with the borrower's figure | The certificate, the borrower's financials and the covenant catalog | The portfolio analyst, before sign-off |
| Credit memo first draft | Drafts the memo in the fund's house format, with every figure tied to its source | The borrower file, the model, diligence notes and past memos | The deal lead, then the credit committee |
| Borrower spreading | Maps the borrower's statements into the fund's spreading template and lists every line it could not map | The borrower's monthly or quarterly financial statements | The analyst who owns the credit |
| Quarterly watchlist note | Drafts each credit's review note: covenant headroom, changes since last quarter and open questions | The catalog, the latest certificate check and last quarter's note | The portfolio manager |
| Amendment and waiver summary | Sets out what an amendment or waiver changes, term by term, against the current agreement | The amendment or waiver request and the current agreement | The deal analyst, with counsel on the legal terms |
Build the covenant catalog first. The certificate check and the watchlist note both read from it, so getting it right makes the next two easier.
4. What Anthropic Already Gives a Credit Team
Two parts of Anthropic's repository still save a credit team time.
- Private equity commands to adapt. The open-source private equity plugin (version 0.1.2, Apache-2.0) has ten commands, each backed by a skill. Four sit close to credit work:
/screen-deal,/dd-checklist,/ic-memoand/portfolio. Rewritten around your credit box and memo template, they become loan screening, borrower diligence, credit memos and quarterly reviews. - Twelve connectors. The companion financial-analysis plugin holds them all, from Moody's, S&P Global and PitchBook to Box and Egnyte, so install it first. The README warns: "MCP access may require a subscription or API key from the provider." The credit connectors guide covers which ones matter.
Anthropic supplies the format and the data pipes. The credit judgment inside each skill has to come from your fund.
5. Rules Every Credit Skill Needs
A skill makes a credit team faster at being right or faster at being wrong. Three rules decide which.
- An analyst checks every number. Write the check into the skill: every ratio shows its inputs and the page they came from, so the reviewer can tie it out in minutes. Claude drafts, and a named person signs.
- Borrower data stays in the fund's organization. Borrower financials and MNPI go only into the fund's Team or Enterprise organization, where Anthropic says that by default it will not use inputs or outputs to train its models (Privacy Center), and never into a personal Pro account on consumer terms. Counsel decides what each agreement's confidentiality terms allow. Switch off chat ratings: a thumbs up or down stores the whole conversation for up to 5 years.
- Every term cites its page. Each covenant, definition and amendment term carries the section and page it came from. A reviewer who can find the source in seconds will actually check it.
A skill without these rules saves an hour and puts the quarter's numbers at risk.
6. Where to Start
Pick one live credit the team knows well and build the covenant catalog on it.
- Write the catalog skill in the fund's format and run it on that credit's agreement and amendments.
- Have the analyst check every line, and fix the instructions wherever it missed.
- Upload it organization-wide once it passes, then build the certificate check on top of it.
- Turn off User-created skills (Organization settings, Plugins and skills) until someone reviews each new skill before release.
The workflows themselves are in Claude for covenant monitoring and Claude for credit memos.
WorkWise Solutions, which publishes this guide, builds a credit fund's first skills inside the Claude Rollout for Private Equity and Credit Funds: Claude Team or Enterprise with deal-data and MNPI rules, connectors to the document store, and a starter skills library in the fund's house formats, with up to three champions who can maintain it. It costs from $25,000 for funds of 1 to 10 people to $40,000 for 61 to 150, over three to six weeks, and every fee is on the pricing page.
The Credit-Team Intensive, $12,500 for up to 12 people, trains the team on its own redacted credit work. Not a fit if an analyst at your fund already has the time to write, test and maintain skills in-house.
"Organization-wide skill management is available to Team and Enterprise plans."

- •Anthropic's financial-services repository had no private credit or lending plugin as of October 23, 2026, so credit funds write their own Claude skills or adapt the private equity plugin's commands.
- •The six Claude skills worth building first at a credit fund are a covenant catalog, a compliance certificate check, a credit memo first draft, borrower spreading, a quarterly watchlist note and an amendment and waiver summary.
- •A compliance certificate skill should recompute each ratio from the borrower's financials using the credit agreement's own definitions, then flag every gap for an analyst to check.
- •On Claude Team and Enterprise, an Owner uploads a skill once and every user in the organization gets it, while giving a skill to one group only takes Enterprise.
- •Every credit skill needs three rules: an analyst checks every number, borrower data stays in the fund's Team or Enterprise organization, and every term cites the page of the agreement it came from.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a Claude plugin for private credit?
Not from Anthropic, as of October 23, 2026. Anthropic's financial-services repository on GitHub has a private equity plugin but no private credit or lending plugin. A credit fund can still use the same parts: the skills format, the private equity plugin's commands as starting points, and the twelve connectors in the companion financial-analysis plugin, some of which may need the provider's subscription or API key. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner uploads the fund's own skills once and every user in the organization gets them.
Can Claude check a borrower's compliance certificate?
Yes, as a draft for an analyst to verify. A compliance certificate skill reads the certificate, the borrower's financials and the credit agreement, recomputes each ratio using the agreement's own definitions, and flags any figure that differs from the borrower's. It should show every input and the page it relied on, so the analyst can tie it out in minutes. Run it only in the fund's Claude Team or Enterprise organization, and leave the compliance call with the analyst. The covenant compliance checklist lists what else to test.
Who can build custom Claude skills for a credit fund?
Two routes work. An analyst with time can write skills in-house, since a skill is a folder built around a SKILL.md file of written instructions, and Anthropic's free Claude Academy has courses, tutorials and use cases to learn from. Or a fund can hire the work out: WorkWise Solutions, which publishes this guide, builds a starter skills library in the fund's house formats inside its Claude rollout, from $25,000 for funds of 1 to 10 people, and its Credit-Team Intensive trains up to 12 people for $12,500. Either way, test each skill on a real agreement first.
